Cllr Sue Sunderland, Executive Member for Housing has today welcomed the launch of a Home Improvement Agency in the city. The agency has been set up to help home owners or tenants in the private sector address problems caused by poor or inadequate housing.
The agency will be run by Yorkshire Housing Foundation in conjunction with Age Concern and also involves Selby and York Primary Care Trust and the Energy Efficiency Centre.
Cllr Sue Sunderland welcomed the launch of York HIA
Cllr. Sunderland said:
"Problems caused by inadequate housing can affect many groups of people but older and disabled people are particularly vulnerable. The home improvement agency will be a boon to these groups.
"Home Improvement Agencies are well established in many areas of the country. They invariably provide a vital service towards improving the standard of private housing.
"This service spans from assessing the adaptations a resident might require, to accessing funds to pay for these improvements, to arranging a quote for carrying out the work.
" The work they do can help older people remain in their own homes for many years longer than they would otherwise be able to. The establishment of one in York is very welcome news for the city."
