Cllr Andrew Waller, Executive Member for Environment and Sustainability, has welcomed grants totaling £15,000 towards training officers in Environmental Health and Trading Standards. The money has come from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Local Government Association. Only 147 grants were available nationally and so York is very fortunate to have picked up 3 grants of £5,000.
Cllr Waller said , "This is very good news for the department which has worked hard to deliver good quality services at a time when there is a national shortage of qualified staff."
"With this news coming at this time of year, close to budget setting, it gives us a little breathing space in Environmental Services to review some of the savings that have been proposed to balance the books. Any extra resources that the Government provides will be put into front line services."
