Cllr Ceredig Jamieson-Ball, Chair of the Young People in York Scrutiny Panel, welcomed the additional £50,000 in the 2005 / 06 Liberal Democrat Budget to implement some of the panel's recommendations. The announcement was made at a meeting of City of York Council's Executive last Friday.
The scrutiny panel was set up by the lib dems after taking power in 2003 to investigate the provision of services for young people in York. The panel reported to the council last year with a number of recommendations for how the council could improve its services for young people
Cllr Jamieson-Ball said:
"I am delighted that an additional £50,000 will be allocated in next year's budget to implement some of the recommendation of the Young People in York Scrutiny Panel.
"I am sure that these funds will be used to provide young people with alternatives to the street corner. I have no doubt that this money will enable innovative projects to be developed and that, in time, the benefits will be felt by both young people and the wider community."
Cllr Keith Orrell, Executive Member for Leisure and Heritage, added:
"Last year the Scrutiny for Young People reported with recommendations on a wide range of issues.
"It is therefore gratifying that for this very difficult budget this sum of £50k has been earmarked to start to deliver the recommendations of the Scrutiny Report."
