Tomorrow evening, Thursday 24th February, over 300 people will gather in the prestigious surroundings of the National Railway Museum in York to hear York's seventh annual education lecture. The speaker will be Greg Dyke, chancellor of the University of York and former director general of the BBC, who left his post in controversial circumstances in 2004. He will be talking to delegates on the subject of leadership and motivation, a topic on which he is well qualified to speak.
Cllr. Carol Runciman, executive member for education for City of York Council, will be introducing him. She said:
"Leadership and motivation are topics which are of interest and concern to all those in the education world as well as many outside it. This will be a wonderful opportunity to hear the thoughts of a person who has experienced the ups and downs of the leadership game first hand.
" Somebody said of Greg Dyke once that he is the sort of man who should be leading the nation. We will have a chance to hear his thoughts on this important topic and to be able to reflect on them as we go back to our everyday lives.
"I am looking forward to the evening which I know will maintain the very high reputation of York's education lectures, built up over recent years."
