Tom Brake MP speaking at Lib Dem conference
York has been named in a motion praising councils for achieving Fairtrade status. It has been put down by Tom Brake MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet Member for International Development. This followed discussions last week in York on a visit by Mr Brake to see Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Andrew Waller and the centre for Global Education at St.John's College.
Andrew Waller said "It is fitting that at the start of Fairtrade Fortnight there will be recognition in Parliament of the work being done in York by many members of the Fairtrade Forum. There are a large number of events going on in locally, and following my suggestion it will be included in the future "City of Festivals" listings for York, which is really distinguishing it on the city's calendar"
