Cllr Sue Sunderland (City of York Council Executive Member for Housing) tonight (6th Feb) heard details of the 2005 Annual Housing Service Monitor at a meeting of the Housing Advisory Panel. The 'Monitor' is an in-depth survey, of 650 council tenants, about York's Housing Services.
Cllr Sue Sunderland said "This year's Housing Monitor shows a mixed picture. I am pleased that overall satisfaction remains very high, with 78% tenants stating they are very satisfied or fairly satisfied, and 82% residents stating that the Council is a good landlord. We have also seen a rise in the amount of tenants who are 'very satisfied' from 37% to 40% this year.
We have seen a drop in satisfaction in some areas, and the figures showed that residents in the Tang Hall area were noticeably less satisfied than in other parts of the city. I am very confident that the planned expenditure of £2.2 million in this area will produce higher satisfaction next year. The Tenants' Choice programme continues to produce excellent results, modernizing many hundreds of homes each year. We hope that our increased investment will bring satisfaction for residents. Overall, I feel positive that the newly restructured Housing Service will provide better responses to our customers in future
"There has been a small increase in the numbers of tenants who have reported problems with their neighbours, such as noise nuisance. However, York's new approach to introductory tenancies should begin to bear fruit, and I am pleased that the percentage of residents who felt very satisfied with the way their problem was dealt with has risen. Tackling anti-social behaviour is so vital, as the Council works to ensure that the majority of tenants are not disturbed by those small number who abuse our properties."
