York has received a national award for its work with vulnerable children
Lib Dem Council chiefs are delighted that York has been awarded 'Beacon Council' status for Early Intervention (Children at Risk). Liberal Democrat Councillor Glen Bradley accepted the award from Local Government Minister Phil Woolas MP at a ceremony in London on Monday afternoon.
Cllr Glen Bradley (Chair of the Education and Children's Services Committee) said:
"I am delighted that the City has been recognised for its achievements in this vital area. I would like to extend my hearty congratulations to all the people and agencies who have worked together to make a difference to the lives of young people in York.
"The Liberal Democrats in York have been working hard to improve services for children and young people, and national recognition like this is extremely encouraging."
Cllr Carol Runciman, Executive Member for Children's Services, said:
"I am really pleased that the government has recognised the efforts of all those working on early intervention across York. The work the Council has been doing with children at risk is of vital importance, and I look forward to sharing our good practice with other authorities."
