Madeleine Kirk (front, second from left) celebrates her election with local members and campaigners
York Outer Liberal Democrats are first to select their Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, Councillor Madeleine Kirk. Madeleine was chosen by members attending a packed meeting at Oaken Grove Community Centre on Saturday.
York Outer is a new 'doughnut' constituency which is made up of the outer wards of the City of York Council. This is a top target seat for the Liberal Democrats at the next General Election, and the Liberal Democrats hold 23 out of the 24 Council seats in the new constituency.
Madeleine Kirk has lived in the constituency with her husband David for almost 30 years now and in that time has fought three general elections, one European election and five local elections both in York and Ryedale. As well as being a City of York Councillor Madeleine works for a large social research charity and has two Children; James who is serving in the Royal Navy and Karoline who is currently studying at the University of York.
Commenting on her selection, Madeleine Kirk said,
"I am delighted and proud to have been chosen to represent York Outer Constituency as its parliamentary candidate. We will be working hard to run an excellent campaign to win, and I look forward to working with the constituency team to promote Liberal Democrat values in York Outer."
