Councillor Sue Galloway has today welcomed the news that City of York Council's Learning Disabilities Service has been awarded two stars.
Cllr Sue Galloway (Lib Dem Executive Member for Adult Social Services) said "I am absolutely delighted that we have been awarded two stars for our Learning Disabilities Service on its first inspection. Congratulations are due to all the staff for their hard work.
"There were many positive messages contained within the report. In presenting the report the Inspector, Sue Disley, referred to the Council's decision to replace the outdated Hebden Rise facility. She acknowledged that it was a difficult decision to take, but pointed out that there are now more people in York receiving services for the same amount of money, and that the services they receive are more appropriate to the people using them.
"There are of course ways for City of York Council to improve, and in particular I will be looking at respite services and employment opportunities within the Council.
"Overall, this is a very positive report for York."
