Wigginton Road with floods before roadworks
Haxby and Wigginton residents should see noticeable improvements with the state of Wigginton Road, after road works were carried out 3 weeks ago.
Following reoccurring flooding problems on Wigginton Road, the Council has set about resolving the problem by digging out the culvert carrying the flowing water under the road, which was blocked, resulting in flooding problems.
Where the water had been draining into a ditch on one side of the road which overflowed, it is now flowing correctly under the road to a ditch on the other side, so that the water is drained away into a field and does not cause flooding.
Liberal Democrat Councillor for Haxby and Wigginton, Paul Firth, is delighted with the road repair works. He said, "The flooding on Wigginton road has been a noticeable problem for residents in my ward, and I am very pleased that the Council has responded to my calls to sort out the flooding problems by unblocking the flow of water beneath this road. Residents will now have a much easier drive in wet weather conditions."
