The Government has made announcements on the status of eco-town proposals across the country, but the situation of the one in the Leeds City Region (which includes York and the Government proposed site at Clifton Gate).
Leader of the Council, Steve Galloway, said:
"The wait goes on for the eco-town decision. In theory any site in the Leeds City Region could still be chosen. We expected the Minster to rule out Clifton Gate, but this decision has not been made. However, the decision is neither more nor less likely following this announcement. I will be talking to leaders of the Leeds City Region on Monday to discuss the way forward, and will continue to oppose this eco-town for York."
Cllr Richard Moore said:
"It is disappointing that all other areas have been determined apart from Leeds City Region, and this matter should be determined promptly. It is unfair on residents across the area that the Government said the matter would be decided by the end of the financial year, and yet we gather it could be months before a determination is made about Clifton Gate. I will continue to campaign against this completely untenable site."
