Liberal Democrat Cllrs Sue Galloway, Executive Member for Adult Social Services, and Cllr Keith Aspden, Executive Member for Youth and Social Inclusion, met yesterday with union representatives and workers of the Remploy factory, which is in the process of being closed by the Government.
Cllr Sue Galloway said: "I am particularly disappointed that the Government has not yet responded to the union representatives formally about the closure of the York site. The manner in which the Government has handled this issue leaves a lot to be desired."
Cllr Keith Aspden said: "We informed the representatives at our meeting today that we would be supportive of their attempts to find alternative premises in York to provide employment for disabled people, and that we would look carefully at any business plan they provided."
Cllr Sue Galloway and Cllr Keith Aspden also reaffirmed their offer of help to find alternative employment for those who did not wish to remain with Remploy through Future Prospects.
