Cllr Jonathan Morley
Residents in Murton should feel safer following the installation last week of two new Vehicle Activated Signs, which warn drivers to slow down. Following requests from residents the signs were installed by the Council along Murton Way and Murton Lane.
Vehicle Activated Signs are intended to encourage drivers to approach bends and junctions at a safe speed, and comply with the speed limit. Drivers exceeding the speed limit will trigger the Vehicle Activated Sign which then reminds them of the speed at which they should be travelling. The signs have proved popular with residents across the City and have proved to be effective at lowering overall speeds as drivers are made aware of the speed that they are travelling.
The Vehicle Activated Signs were funded by the Osbaldwick Ward Committee.
Local Liberal Democrat Councillor, Jonathan Morley, who represents Murton, said: "Residents in my ward are rightfully concerned about speeding in this area, and I am delighted that these speed signs have been installed. I hope that they will deter drivers from speeding, making the area safer for local residents."
Further vehicle speed surveys will be carried out in due course to monitor the effectiveness of this new measure.
