Prominent Liberal Democrat MP, Lynne Featherstone, is visiting York this Friday, 16th May. Lynne Featherstone is the Liberal Democrat Shadow Minister for Youth and Equality.
She is meeting Cllr Keith Aspden, Executive Member for Youth and Social Inclusion, to find out more about the community, voluntary and equality work in York, including the partnership between City of York Council and key organisations, and will be shown various things happening in the city.
During the course of the day, Lynne Featherstone MP will visit City of York Council, York Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), where she will meet with young volunteer workers, and the new Castlegate drop-in centre for young people.
In the afternoon Lynne will visit the York Racial Equality Network (YREN) to gain an understanding of the work going on in York towards achieving greater community cohesion and racial equality. Lynne will be visiting with Cllr Keith Aspden and Cllr Madeleine Kirk.
She will end her trip with a visit to the University of York, where she will be launching the Liberal Democrat Youth and Students' campaign on campus against ID cards - criticised by the Liberal Democrats as an expensive policy which would hinder civil liberties and would not prevent illegal working or terrorism.
Councillor Keith Aspden said, "I am looking forward to welcoming Lynne to York, and showing her a range of things that are happening for young people, as well as examples of our partnership work to achieve greater equality in the city."
