The Derwent, Heworth Without and Osbaldwick Ward Committee meeting will be very different from usual, next Tuesday, 1st July. The Ward Committee is holding a Community Fair at which there will be a range of activities for local residents of all ages to enjoy.
The event will be free and among the activities there will be rounders, the Urbie Bus mobile youth club and a bike maintenance workshop. Local police officers and the Older Citizen Advocacy York will also be there to offer information to residents. The City of York Councillors football team will also be taking part, challenging teams from local primary school in the area.
The Ward Councillors will be there, along with the Street Environment Officer, Neighbourhood Management Officer and the Neighbourhood Policing Team to discuss local issues with residents, as at a normal Ward Committee meeting.
The event is intended to encourage as many people as possible to come along and get involved in Ward Committee discussions, and of course the range of activities that are taking place.
Liberal Democrat Councillor for Heworth Without, Nigel Ayre, is looking forward to next Tuesday's event; "This event is designed to encourage greater community involvement in our ward meetings, and an outdoor family event is a great way of getting as many people involved as possible."
"As residents are being asked to give suggestions in July on how to spend the Ward Committee Budget, we were keen to get as many people involved in possible. This shows our commitment to listening to the views from all residents in our respective wards."
Liberal Democrat Councillor for Osbaldwick, Jonathan Morley, added: "I look forward to meeting local residents who would not normally come along to our Ward Team meetings, and I hope they will let us know what's important to them in the local area, and how they wish to see the Ward Committee budget spent."
