COUNCIL WILL ADOPT AND MAINTAIN CHAPEL ALLEY IN FULFORD

July 9, 2008 1:04 AM

A long running campaign and petition, organised by Cllr Keith Aspden, the Liberal Democrat councillor for Fulford, and signed by 127 Fulford residents, has secured the adoption of Chapel Alley in Fulford by City of York Council.

Cllr Aspden organised the petition last year, asking that the Council adopts and maintains the snicket in Fulford which joins Main Street and School Lane. After Cllr Aspden presented the petition to Full Council it was agreed by the City Strategy Advisory Panel in January that surveys and costings would be carried out.

The surveys have resulted in the recommended decision to the City Strategy Advisory Panel, to be taken at the meeting on Monday 14th July, to adopt Chapel Alley and include the snicket in the council's maintenance list.

Cllr Keith Aspden said, "Chapel Alley is a useful route for many Fulford residents, particularly pupils who attend St Oswald's Primary School and Fulford School, and many residents have been concerned about the upkeep of this alley".

"I will be speaking at the meeting on the 14th July to highlight that, after the long campaign by myself and Fulford Parish Council, getting the snicket added to the list of streets under the Council's control is the first stage in repairing the condition of this alley, and that I am therefore very pleased that this decision is being made in light of residents' concerns".

"The path will be considered for inclusion in next year's programme of road maintenance works by the council, but potholes may be repaired before then, and the snicket will be added to the council's sweeping regime. It is great that we have started the ball rolling at last."
