Work has started on building 9 new family homes in the Chapelfields area of Westfield. These houses will be available for rent, hopefully towards the end of the year.
Tees Valley Housing Association has started building the scheme which will comprise 8 two-bed houses and 1 three-bed house in a combination of detached and terrace dwellings.
They are being built on what was a former adventure playground, which has been unused for many years, at the rear of Chapelfields Road.
The houses will also be eco-friendly, built to a very good environmental standard with high insulation levels and water recycling facilities to reduce carbon emissions and running costs.
Cllr Sue Galloway, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Westfield, said, "I am very pleased that the Chapelfields area of Westfield Ward is soon to have more family homes, particularly as they will be in fitting with contemporary environmental standards which will hopefully become the norm in the future.
"It is important that we introduce more housing for rent, with house prices still being so high despite the recent dip in the market, and I'm sure that Westfield residents will benefit from this new development."
