Councillor Christian Vassie, executive member for Leisure, Culture, and Social Inclusion welcomed the free activity day at the city's leisure facilities.
'The celebration of the handover of the Olympic flag on Sunday is a great opportunity for everyone to take full advantage of the free access to the city's sports facilities and try something new,' said Cllr Vassie.
'For us ordinary mortals, exercise is about keeping active and healthy rather than acquiring large quantities of precious metals. When I'm running in the gym several times a week I am well aware that the Olympic runners would have run twice as far, picked up their gold medals, and gone out for a celebration meal in the time it takes me to do my six kilometres, but so what? Keeping active and healthy is at least as important as winning medals. So come and try out a new activity for free this Sunday. It may be the first step to a world record or simply a chance to discover that fitter and healthier you.'
