A new initiative aimed at alerting the Council to empty properties has begun in the Westfield Ward of the City.
The scheme involves the Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) working in Westfield who will supply information directly to a dedicated officer in the Council's Housing Team, about empty properties which they spot during their work in the Ward. This will enable early action to be taken to ensure that properties are brought back into use as speedily as possible, remain secure and do not become a target for vandals.
Speaking today, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Westfield Ward, Sue Galloway, said: "This is a good example of partnership working which has come about as a result of the Capable Guardian initiative being piloted in Westfield Ward. PCSOs are out and about in their patches on a daily basis and are well placed to spot empty properties quickly. In the present climate with more and more houses being repossessed this initiative will be welcome news, as we are all aware that empty properties can blight an area."
