Following a long campaign with local residents, Councillor Keith Aspden, the Liberal Democrat councillor for Fulford, is delighted with the planned improvements to Chapel Alley in the new year, with £3,500 allocated for improvements.
127 local residents signed a petition organized by Councillor Aspden to get the Council to adopt Chapel Alley. In July 2008 the Council took the decision to adopt the alley, allowing the improvements to go ahead. Repairs to a number of potholes have already taken place, ensuring the safety of residents, especially older people.
Councillor Aspden comments, "It is great news that Chapel Alley, a really well used snicket between Main Street and School Lane, has been included in the provisional highways resurfacing programme for next year. This means that £3,500 should be spent to update the surface of the whole alley. This is in addition to the pothole repairs that we have already seen, and the fact that the local Ward Committee will be contributing to street lighting improvements this year. After a long campaign with local residents, I am delighted to see real progress to improve this alley."
