Members of City of York Council's Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services and Advisory Panel are set to receive and update on plans for a new city centre facility for young people later this month.
Work is well underway on a bid for funding from the Government's Myplace scheme which offers grants of up to £5m for new 'world class' facilities for young people.
Consultation has already taken place with young people to find out what they want from the new facilities and to identify possible locations for the new centre.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Councillor Carol Runciman welcomed the work done by the community architect, Phil Bixby, to take forward the 'Myplace' bid.
She said "Having discussed the plans with Mr Bixby, I am confident that he is putting together a good bid for the next round of the 'Myplace' funding."
"At present, the government has not decided on a date on which bids will need to be submitted but York's bid will be ready by March 31st and will go in as soon as a date is given."
"The young people of the city have contributed significantly to the ideas for this bid and it will be good to take these forward, I hope that the government will be able to respond to the needs of young people in the city and that our bid will be successful."
