St Paul's Nursery School in York has become the first Local Authority nursery in the region to achieve stage 3 of the 'Steps to Quality' award, which recognises excellence in childcare provision.
The 'Steps to Quality' scheme has 3 stages:
· Stage 1: Is the basic standard. It builds on the registration process and ensures that the main policies and procedures are in place.
· Stage 2 :Focuses on developing practice and builds on Step 1. It looks at the way that policies and procedures support good practice in the setting.
· Stage 3: Celebrates top quality practice and builds on the previous two steps. It covers the way the setting evaluates and continues to plan their service to promote and maintain quality.
In achieving stage 3 St Paul's Nursery School has shown it excels in a variety of areas including meeting the needs of individual children, providing a safe environment, leadership, staff development and building good relationships with parents.
The award will be presented to the nursery by Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Service, Councillor Carol Runciman.
