The new Haxby Road Children's Centre is set to begin welcoming local children and their families from next week.
Services at the new centre, located at Haxby Road Primary school, will be offered from the 23rd of February.
Haxby Road Children's Centre will be the city's 8th Children's Centre joining centres at Hob Moor, Westfield, Carr, Clifton, New Earswick, Tang Hall and St Lawrence's primary schools. The ninth centre, located at Knavesmire Primary School, is expected to open in January 2010.
The Children's Centres provide a range of local services and support for families with children under 5. The services are provided by a multi-agency team of professionals from across Children's Services, the NHS and other organisations.
Councillor Carol Runciman, Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, welcomed the opening of the Children's Centre. She said, "The development of Children's Centres across the city has been a great success. The Centre based at Haxby Road School will provide a much needed facility for the area and will provide essential services for children and families in the area."
"I have visited the school several times as the centre has been developed and I am delighted to know that everyone's efforts have now achieved the desired result. I am sure it will be well used and look forward to visiting it when it is in action."
