March 16, 2009 12:00 AM

Sir Al Aynsley-Green, the Children's Commissioner for England, will address a conference of professionals working with children and young people it has been announced today.

The Children's Commissioner, who represents the interests of the 11 million children in England, will speak to the 'No Wrong Door' conference in May.

The conference will bring together professionals for a celebration of early preventative services for children and young people in York and will give the delegates a chance to learn more about the Children and Young Peoples' Plan 2009-2012.

Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Councillor Carol Runciman said the conference would showcase the importance of early preventative work. She said, "Early intervention when potential problems are identified is vital when working with children and young people. It is important that we act early to ensure any early problems are overcome quickly to minimise the effect on the child."

"We have done a lot of excellent work with children and young people in York and this conference will allow professionals to share the secrets of their success."

Councillor Runciman added, "I am delighted that Sir Al Aynsley-Green will be addressing the conference. He has an important role to play as the champion for children in this country. I am looking forward to hearing what he has to say."

The conference will take place on 12th May between 9.30am and 3.30pm at The Park Inn, North Street, York.
