The reopening of Moor Lane Bridge, over a month after improvement works were scheduled to finish, is a welcome end to major disruption for local residents Councillor Tom Holvey, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Dringhouses and Woodthorpe has said.
Work on behalf of Network Rail to replace the bridge should have been completed on the 12th of February but the bridge did not reopen until the 22nd of March.
Additional work by the same contractor to improve cycle facilities on the bridge on behalf of the council have also been completed.
Councillor Holvey said the closure had caused major problems with traffic in the area. He said, "The work on the bridge has caused local residents major disruption, traffic has been much worse than usual as people are forced to take detours through residential areas."
Councillor Holvey also said he was disappointed that the contractors had failed to keep the council and local residents informed about the delays. He commented, "There was very little information forthcoming from the contractors about the reasons for these delays. It is important that contractors keep local people informed about schemes like this, especially when they cause so much disruption."
