Councillors are set to discuss new government proposals on the sale of alcohol this week.
The proposals include the banning of 'all you can drink' promotions and improvements to labelling of drinks to include information on the number of units in each drink.
Members of the Council's Licensing and Gambling Act Committee will meet on Friday to discuss the recommendations contained in the Selling Alcohol Responsibly consultation document, many of which are already in place in York.
Committee Chair Councillor Sue Galloway said she was keen to ensure as many people as possible were given the chance to respond to the consultation. She said, "The government consultation prior to coming up with these recommendations was extremely limited. Therefore I think it is important that as many people as possible have their say at this stage."
"The Licensing and Gambling Acts Committee will be meeting on Friday to discuss the consultation document and members of the public are welcome to come along to hear the discussion."
Members of the public wishing to respond to the consultation can do so by visiting the government's online consultation webpage at http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/documents/cons-2009-alcohol/.
Councillor Galloway added, "anyone wishing to make comments on the consultation who is not able to respond online can write to me with their comments and they will be included in the discussion when the council makes its response."
The consultation runs until the 5th of August and any comments to be considered for the Council's reply should be sent to Councillor Sue Galloway by the second week in July.
