Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services, Councillor Ann Reid has praised the work the York In Bloom team after feedback from judges gave positive feedback on York's offering for the 'In Bloom' competition.
The judges, who visited in April to asses York's displays, said the displays of spring flowers, the standard of highway verges, open spaces and business premises and colleges were 'excellent'.
Councillor Reid said staff from the York In Bloom team had worked hard alongside staff and volunteers from Brunswick Organic Nursery to ensure York had an top class entry into the competition.
Councillor Reid said, "Everyone has worked hard to set a very high standard in the first round of judging and it is great to see that their hard work has been rewarded by positive comments from the judges."
"I am sure the judges will be equally impressed when they visit for the second round of judging in July."
"The staff have done a great job in working with members of the public and local business to ensure that York In Bloom is something that can bring people together and give them something to be proud of."
"Hopefully this positive feedback will encourage even more people to get involved with the project, as the more people that get involved the more chance we have of success."
Judges will visit for the second round of judging on the 23rd of July.
