The search has begun for a budding young politician to represent the young people of York on the UK Youth Parliament.
The Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) for York will represent local young people at a national level, feeding ideas from young people directly to central government.
The successful candidate will attend regional meetings and the annual sitting of the parliament which is being held in Canterbury from 24th - 27th July.
Candidates will be urging their peers to vote for them with five-minute speeches explaining their views at hustings in the Guildhall Council Chambers on the 8th of July at 5.30pm
All young people aged between 11-19 years are invited to attend the hustings and vote for the candidate of their choice.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Councillor Carol Runciman said it was important that young people had the opportunity to have their say.
She said, "Too often decisions are taken on behalf of young people without hearing what they have to say."
"We have been working hard here in York to ensure young people are consulted on decisions affecting them, having a member of the UK Youth Parliament will mean young people will also get to have their voices heard on national issues."
"It is important that young people get involved in decision making and I hope that the hustings will encourage all young people to think about the political issues that affect their daily lives."
Candidate's application forms are available from: Young People's Services, 10-12 George Hudson Street, YO1 6LP or call 01904 552350.
Young people aged between 11-19 are eligible to stand for election and applications to stand for election must be received by the council by 2nd July.
