Aspiring young film makers from across the city are hoping to hear their name read out as a winner at this year's 'Yoscars' ceremony.

This year is the fourth year that City of York Council have organised the 'York Oscars' for children and young people between the ages of 3 and 16 in the city.

Awards in seven different categories will be given out at a special ceremony which will take place at York Racecourse on Monday 6th July at 7pm.

The seven categories are:

  • EYFS (3-5 years)
  • Year 1/2 - (5-7 years)
  • Year 3/4 - (7-9 years)
  • Year 5/6 - (9-11 years)
  • Key Stage 3 - (11-14 years)
  • Key Stage 4 - (14-16 years)
  • International Entries

Entries have been submitted from infant, junior, primary, secondary schools and internationally from link schools in Singapore.

The entries will be assessed by an independent panel of judges who will pick the winners.

Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Service's, Councillor Carol Runciman said, "The Yoscars are a great way of encouraging children and young people to explore their creative side and learn new IT skills as well as have some fun in the process."

"The awards ceremony is a great way of recognising the hard work that these young people have put into their projects. Hopefully one of them may even go on to become the next Steven Spielberg."

Councillor Runciman said she was looking forward to attending the ceremony again this year. She said, "It is always great fun to see the excitement build up as the winners are about to be announced."

"I am looking forward to seeing the entries that young people have submitted this year, they have always been of a very high standard in the past and I am sure that will continue this year"
