City of York Council are seeking the views of customers on proposals for new ways to access the benefits service.
Currently customers can telephone or write to the service to make a new claim, amend personal circumstances or to request information or assistance.
As part of the review of the benefits service, City of York Council are seeking the opinion of its customers about alternative ways of contacting the benefits service, for example using the internet or having home visits. The opening hours of the service are also being considered.
From Monday 22 June to Friday 3 July 2009 customers can complete an online survey to give the council their views at www.york.gov.uk/consultation/.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Corporate Services, Councillor Richard Moore said the consultation would influence future improvements to the service. He said, "We are always looking to provide a better, more efficient service for customers. By seeking their feedback on the benefits service we can tailor the service to ensure it meets their needs."
"It is important that we ensure that the services we provide are focused on the needs of the customer, in order to provide them with the level of service they expect from us."
"The review will also allow us to consider how we use new technology to ensure that the benefits system operates as efficiently as possible."
