Fulford residents are celebrating today after a compromise plan on improvements to Main Street, Fulford were agreed by the Council's City Strategy Chief.
Resident's had raised concerns that the original plans would have meant a loss of parking spaces in the village for local residents, people visiting the doctor's surgery and the local church.
Following discussions between local Councillor Keith Aspden, the Parish Council and Council Officers a compromise plan was drawn up. The revised plans were approved by the Executive Member for City Strategy Councillor Steve Galloway at a meeting last night.
Councillor Aspden, along with residents and a Parish Council representative spoke at the meeting urging support for the plans.
Councillor Aspden said, "This could have been a very difficult process but thanks to constructive discussions between Councillors, officers and residents a sensible compromise has been reached."
At the meeting Councillor Galloway delegated to officers the power to make minor changes to the plans in order to meet some of the outstanding concerns raised by residents.
Councillor Aspden said, "I am very pleased with the decision taken today. Thanks to constructive engagement with residents and officers we have gone from plans that were widely opposed to a compromise that has widespread support, but that also meets the aims of the original plans."
"This decision is good news for Fulford residents but it is important that we continue to engage with the process, such as with the amendments to the Fulford park area to maintain our conservation area. I will continue to represent the views of residents as the final detailed plans are drawn up."
