Local community and voluntary groups in York are being encouraged to put in their bids for Ward Committee funding as the deadlines for submissions approach.
Not for profit groups can apply to their local ward committee for a grant to carry out a project in the ward.
Projects bidding for the funds must take place between 1st April 2010 and 31st March 2011 and must be able to demonstrate the benefit to the local ward community.
All the bids will be published in the autumn edition of Your Ward. Residents will then have the opportunity to make their preferences known on how the ward committee budget should be allocated.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services, Councillor Ann Reid encouraged people to apply for the funding. She said, "Ward Committee funding has given a massive boost to many projects in the past and has really made a difference to local communities."
"There are many fantastic community and voluntary groups in the city which may be struggling for funds due to the recession. The Ward Committee grants offer the perfect opportunity to help them continue their excellent work or to start up a new project."
"The deadlines for funding applications vary between wards but all are between the end of now and the end of August. I would encourage anyone who is thinking of putting in a bid to contact their local Neighbourhood Management Officer to discuss the application further."
