Four of York's parks and open spaces have won the coveted Green Flag Award this year.
The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales and recognises quality green spaces across the country.
Previous award winners Rowntree Park, West Bank Park and Glen Gardens won again this year and have been joined by Rawcliffe Country Park for the 2009 awards.
The award is judged on a wide range of criteria including whether the site is clean, well maintained, welcoming and safe and secure, as well as looking at levels of community involvement and management.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, Councillor Nigel Ayre said the awards were a testament to the hard work of the Council's Parks and Open Spaces Team.
He said, "The staff that look after the city's parks do a fantastic job of providing clean and safe environments for people to enjoy the outdoors. These awards recognise that hard work and the staff should be very proud."
"The awards also recognise the involvement the local community have in looking after the parks and planning the wide range of events that take place in these parks throughout the year."
"York has some wonderful parks and green spaces and we aim to encourage as many people as possible to get outside and take advantage of what is on offer. Hopefully these awards will encourage even more people to pay a visit to the park this summer."
