Parents in York are being offered a series of new support programmes to help them build stronger relationships between themselves and their children.
The programmes, entitled 'Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities' are funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
Aimed at parents of 5 to 13 year olds the courses will help parents and children work together to build strong relationships and enhance their role in the local community.
The courses will run for a 13 week term at five locations in the city, with start dates ranging from mid September to early November.
Parents who attend the course at Poppleton Road will also be given the opportunity to gain a level 1 qualification for their work.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Councillor Carol Runciman said similar schemes had proven popular in the past. She said, "Being a parent can be challenging at times and sometimes just a little bit of help and advice and make a big difference."
"These courses will help parents and children build their relationships and will provide information about other help and advice that is available, as well as encouraging people to play a bigger role in their local community."
"We are committed to providing early support and guidance to parents and children to prevent any problems further down the road. By ensuring parents and children have access to the best help and support, we can help to build stronger families and stronger communities. "
