Budding screenwriters will have a chance to discuss their ideas with a BAFTA nominated screenwriter this summer as Michael Hirst, the writer behind the BBC drama The Tudors, visits York's Libraries.
As part of the Big City Read, which has a Tudor theme this year, Michael Hirst will be holding screenwriting workshops at Acomb Explore Centre and York Central Library.
The workshops will offer people the chance to discuss their screenplay or idea and get tips on how to get their idea onto the big screen.
Workshops will take place on Friday 21st August at Acomb Explore Library Learning Centre and Saturday 22nd August at York Central Library.
On Friday 21st August from 7pm to 8pm, at Acomb Explore Library Learning Centre Michael will also be giving a talk on the life of Henry VIII where people will have the chance to ask questions about the life of Henry VIII and The Tudors TV series.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, Councillor Nigel Ayre said, "It is great to have the writer of the tremendously popular Tudors TV series in York, I am sure there will be many aspiring screenwriters keen to get some advice on how to get their idea on film."
Councillor Ayre said this year's Big City Read had already seen a wide range of celebrations and events based on the Tudor theme.
"Last month International best selling author of The Other Boleyn Girl, Philippa Gregory visited York as part of the celebrations and the educational events that have taken place throughout the summer have proven very popular."
He said, "This year's Big City Read has been a fantastic success so far, people have clearly enjoyed reading CJ Sansom's 'Sovereign' and have been inspired to find out more about the Tudor period."
"It is great to see cultural events like the Big City Read succeeding and bringing a wide range of people together through all reading the same book."
