Fulford residents using a popular shortcut will soon be in for a smoother walk after City of York Council announced that Chapel Alley will be fully resurfaced later this month.
The announcement draws to an end a long campaign by local Councillor Keith Aspden to get the Council to adopt the alley and carry out repairs.
Chapel Alley was adopted by City of York Council in July 2008 following the campaign which was backed by a 127 signature petition.
Following the adoption of Chapel Alley potholes were repaired and new street lighting was installed. Now the whole alley will be fully resurfaced providing a smooth and safe surface for residents using the popular short cut.
Councillor Aspden said, "Chapel Alley is a really well used snicket between Main Street and School Lane, it is great news that it is now going to be fully resurfaced."
"Chapel Alley has been in need of resurfacing for some time, the potholes were a danger to people using the alley, especially elderly residents."
"After a long campaign with local residents, I am delighted to see real progress to improve this alley."
City of York Council will begin work to resurface Chapel Alley on 18th August and work is expected to take a week.
