Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Councillor Carol Runciman has today welcomed the news that once again pupils in York's schools have performed well in their Key Stage 2 assessments.
The number of pupils achieving Level 4, the expected grade for 11 year olds, was above the national average in English and Maths while results in Science maintained pace with national figures.
The Number of pupils exceeding the expected Level 4 and achieving Level 5 was above the national average in English, Maths and Science with performance in English beating the national average by 6%.
Councillor Runciman said, "These are another excellent set of results for the pupils and staff at York's schools, they should all be very proud of their achievements."
"Once again the results exceed the national average and show that York's schools all provide a fantastic education for the city's children."
Councillor Runciman added that the good results were a good sign for the future. She said, "Good Key Stage 2 results provide a stepping stone for good results at Key Stages 3 and 4 and good results at GCSE further down the line."
