Children in Naburn will soon have a brand new play area in which to use up some of their energy thanks to a joint project between City of York Council and Naburn Parish Council.
An exciting new play area behind the village hall will be opened on Friday 9th October at 3.30pm.
The site is the second of 22 playgrounds in the city which will benefit from the £1.1m Playbuilder funding allocated to City of York Council by the Department of Children, Schools and Families.
The Playbuilder funding aims to create exciting open access play facilities for children between the ages of 8 and 13.
Alongside the £55,000 from the Playbuilder fund, the play area received £20,000 from Yorventure, through funds generated by Yorwaste Ltd operators of the Harewood Whin landfill site, £500 from York children's trust and a generous £10,000 donation from a village resident.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, Councillor Nigel Ayre said, "The first of our Playbuilder play areas opened in Elvington earlier this year and has proven extremely popular with local children. I am sure that the new play area in Naburn will be equally as well used."
"The Playbuilder funding is a great opportunity for us to improve play areas across the city and give children fantastic new facilities."
Local Liberal Democrat Councillor, Christian Vassie said, "I applaud Naburn parish council, council officers, and everyone else involved in seizing the opportunity to create this new play area."
"Village children often find it harder to access the amenities available in the city centre, so this is a fantastic boost. I am sure this new equipment will be enjoyed by children for years to come."
