Fulford's Liberal Democrat Councillor, Keith Aspden, has welcomed news that a controversial planning application for houses on Main Street in Fulford has been withdrawn.
A planning application had been submitted to build 3 new detached houses in gardens to the rear of 34 Main Street, Fulford. The plans also included the creation of 12 parking spaces.
Last month Councillor Aspden wrote to City of York Planning Officers on behalf of local residents to express their objections to the plans.
Speaking about his concerns for the plans, Councillor Aspden said, "The site of the proposed development is one of the few remaining burgage plots in Fulford, which separate historic snickets from Main Street, and should be protected. There was also a great deal of concern locally about the impact the development would have on the Fulford conservation area, as it would have meant the loss of a number of trees and hedges."
"Main Street is a very busy village street, with pedestrians and terraced houses, as well as being one of the main roads into York. The additional traffic that this development would have generated, along a very narrow access point, would have harmed the amenity of the current local residents."
Councillor Aspden welcomed the latest developments saying, "I am glad that the developers have listened to the concerns of local residents and withdrawn the plans."
"The proposals were not suitable for the site and I am pleased that we have been able to achieve a positive result for local residents."
