Parents in York will be able to get a taste of the wide range of services and support available to them at a special showcase event next week.
The event will take place during National Parent's Week, which runs from 19th to 25th October and will feature a series of workshops for parents on subjects including:
First Aid in the Home
Who's Teaching Your Kids about Money
Talking to Kids of all ages about Sex and Relationships,
Building Stronger Relationships,
Healthy Eating
Helping Children with Homework
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Councillor Carol Runciman said the workshops on offer were just a taste of the support available to parents in the city.
She said, "This event will show parents just how much help and advice there is available to them. There is a fantastic range of support and advice available for parents, this event will help highlight where they can access that help."
"We are committed to providing support to parents to help them bring up their families successfully in today's world."
"The event is a great opportunity to meet other parents with children of the same age and discuss the challenges that are faced by all parents."
The event will also give parents the chance to input into the Council's Parenting Strategy and share their views on the services and support they would like to see made available.
Councillor Runciman said it was important that parents were able to help shape the services available. She said, "The parenting strategy will only be a success if it reflects the needs of parents in the city. It is therefore vital that we regularly consult with parents to ensure that services are meeting their needs."
The showcase event will be held at the Friends Meeting House on Friargate between 9.30am and 2.00pm on Friday 23 October.
