Members of the UK Youth Parliament, including York representative Joe Feeney, will tomorrow take over the House of Commons for a landmark debate.
The debate will be the first time in 300 years that anyone other than MPs has debated in the Commons chamber.
The 300 Members of Youth Parliament are all aged between 11 and 18 and have been elected by their peers to represent them at a national and local level.
The Members of Youth Parliament will be debating five key themes:
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Councillor Carol Runciman said, "This is a great opportunity for the Members of Youth Parliament how engaged they are in the political process and to showcase the valuable contributions they have to make."
"Having visited the house of commons several times myself I am sure they will find it very interesting and will enjoy sitting on the hallowed green benches."
"I hope that by seeing young people debating at the heart of our democracy MPs will take on board the issues raised by the Youth Parliament and do more to involve young people in decision making."
"I look forward to hearing about this event from York's MYP Joe Feeney when he returns."
