Three school pupils from York will get the chance to learn more about the work of a Councillor next week when they will take a tour of The Guildhall and learn about how decisions are made in the city.
On 6th November, as part of 11 Million Takeover Day, Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Councillor Carol Runciman will be explaining how she makes decisions that affect the lives of young people in the city to the pupils from Carr Junior School and Joseph Rowntree School.
11 Million Takeover Day is an initiative run by Children's Commissioner Sir Al Aynsley-Green to involve children and young people in decision making and to show them how they can make a difference.
Councillor Runciman said it was important to show young people how they could make an impact on decisions. She said, "11 Million Takeover Day is a great initiative to show children and young people how decisions are made. It gives them a valuable insight into how they can get involved in the decision making process and make their voices heard."
"It is important that young people are able to have their say on the decisions that affect their lives. The new York Youth Council will give young people a forum in which to air their views and highlight the issues that are important to them."
"I look forward to showing the young people around The Guildhall and explaining my role as a Councillor."
