Energise, York's brand new swimming pool, will open it's doors to the public on Monday 14th December.
The new pool has now been handed over to City of York Council for final checks ahead of its opening to the public.
The new pool will replace the Edmund Wilson pool and features a new 25m, six lane swimming pool, a learner pool, hydrotherapy pool, new changing facilities and a new crèche.
The gym facilities, which have doubled in size and now offer over 60 pieces of the latest gym equipment, will open to the public on Monday 16th November.
The new building also boasts a sustainable design featuring solar panels, rain water harvesting and wood pellet fuelled boilers.
Members of the public keen to see the new facilities will be able to take a tour as part of the Westfield Ward Committee meeting on 16th November.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Leisure, Councillor Nigel Ayre welcomed news of the opening date. He said, "The new swimming and gym facilities, combined with those already in place such as the climbing wall and Astroturf pitches, will mean Energise is a facility to be proud of."
"Earlier this year the centre was awarded the Qwest Mark, which rated the centre as one of the best in the country. These new facilities will help the staff build on that success."
The new facilities at Energise are part of a £20m investment programme in swimming and leisure in the city that has already seen the £1m refurbishment of Yearsley Pool and will see the city's first county standard pool built at the University.
