City of York Council are launching a new housing management service for private landlords which aims to make letting and renting properties easier in the city.
The new service, called YorHome offers landlords a range of competitively-priced management services including tenancy introductions, accompanied viewings, help with contracts and agreements, rent collection, maintenance and repairs and advice to tenants.
Management services will be competitively priced, while the tenant finding services is free.
The service aims to make it easier for landlords to rent out houses in order to boost the availability of rented accommodation in the city.
YorHome will also offer advice and guidance on the grants and support available to improve properties and ensure they meet the Decent Homes Standard.
The new service will work in partnership with the Citizens Advice Bureau and the Energy Savings Trust, who will provide free information to landlords and tenants.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Housing and Adult Social Services, Councillor Jonathan Morley said he hoped the service would increase both the quality and quantity of rented properties available in the city.
He said, "Many people are put off renting out properties because of the complexity of finding tenants, arranging contracts and maintaining the property. The new YorHome service will make renting out a property much easier and will hopefully increase the supply of houses to rent in York."
"The service will also make sure that landlords are aware of the help that is available to improve their properties. The free information from the Energy Savings Trust combined with the help in finding grants and funding should help to boost the energy efficiency of rented houses and help tenants save money on energy bills."
"The new scheme will provide an excellent service for both landlords and tenants and I am sure it will be welcomed by many in the city."
