Lone parents in York are being offered a s new support programme to help them build stronger relationships between themselves and their children.
The programme is run by the Council's Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities team and is funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
Aimed at lone parents of 5 to 13 year olds the course will help parents and children work together to build strong relationships and enhance their role in the local community.
The course will run for a 13 week term from Wednesday 6th January, at York Brewery Meeting Rooms from 10.30am until 2pm.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Councillor Carol Runciman said similar schemes had proven popular in the past. She said, "Being a parent can be challenging at times and sometimes just a little bit of help and advice and make a big difference."
"This course will help parents and children build their relationships and will provide information about other help and advice that is available, as well as encouraging people to play a bigger role in their local community."
"We are committed to providing early support and guidance to parents and children to prevent any problems further down the road. By ensuring parents and children have access to the best help and support, we can help to build stronger families and stronger communities. "
More than 250 parents have taken part in previous courses run by the Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities team and more courses are set to start in the new year in Fulford, Osbaldwick, New Earswick and Westfield.
