Commenting on the publication of the latest figures for claims of job seeker's allowance in York, Liberal Democrat Leader of the Council, Councillor Andrew Waller said:
"The latest figures for job seekers allowance figures for York show that since July the statistics have been stable at 3% for the city, which is below the national and significantly below the regional average."
"Jobs continue to be created in the city and the figures show that in December nearly 800 people came off the register, but was matched by a similar number going on. Therefore I would urge all companies to look for what help is available to help them retain the numbers of staff through money for training."
"At the Business Rate Payers consultation with the council on the forthcoming budget on 11th January, local companies heard from Julia Massey from Learning City York, that there was still funding available that companies need to claim before it runs out. York Companies should check either the council website or Yorkshire Forward's for support details."
"The recent independent report on the city's economy, announced at the start of the week showed that with a highly skilled workforce, the York economy was in a strong position compared to other areas, and I am determined that we benefit from each opportunity that the city has here for job creation."
