Final designs have been revealed for the next six new play areas to be built in York using the £1m Playbuilder grant.
The plans have been created for the six sites following extensive consultation with local residents and young people.
The six sites are:
Ashton Avenue - Clifton
Balfour Street/Back Park - Holgate
Barfield Road - Heworth
Chesneys Field - Westfield
Sowerby Road - Holgate
Viking Road - Acomb
The designs are available to view online at http://www.yor-ok.org.uk/playbuilder-designs.htm
Plans for a further 14 sites are in development and new play areas have already opened in Elvington and Naburn providing open access play facilities for 8 to 13 year olds.
All 22 of the Playbuilder sites are due to be completed by the end of 2010/11.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion, Councillor Nigel Ayre welcomed the new designs. He said, "These designs are the result of extensive consultation with local residents and the young people that will be using the facilities."
"I am glad that local children have been able to shape the designs for these sites as after all it is them who will be making use of the new equipment."
"The Playbuilder funding has been targeted to places where facilities were in short supply. I am sure that once completed, these new play areas will provide the city's children and young people with some fantastic new places to get outside and really enjoy themselves."
Westfield Ward Councillor Sue Galloway said the plans for Chesneys Field would be available for residents to view at the next Ward Committee meeting on 1 February at Westfield Community Primary school at 7pm.
