Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Neighbourhood Services, Councillor Ann Reid has praised staff as new figures show the extent of their hard work during the recent snowy weather.
Between 17th December and 10th January Neighbourhood Services staff spent 10,000 hours clearing snow and gritting roads.
The priority road network was gritted 88 times, compared with only 20 times during the same period last year. Gritters used a total of 4,200 tonnes of rock salt in the process, compared with an 2500 to 3000 tonnes during an entire average winter.
Councillor Reid said, "The staff worked exceptionally hard in very difficult circumstances. Many gave up their Christmas holidays in order to work round the clock keeping our roads clear."
"I think that they did an outstanding job considering the severity of the weather. They all deserve a great deal of credit for their hard work and commitment."
