The search has begun for the next budding young politician to represent the young people of York on the UK Youth Parliament.
The Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) for York will represent local young people at a national level, feeding ideas from young people directly to central government.
Current interim member of the UK Youth Parliament, Joe Feeney has come to the end of his term in office and will be stepping down to concentrate on his studies.
Hustings and elections to find a new member and deputy will be held on 30th January in the Guildhall.
All young people aged between 11-19 years are invited to attend the hustings and vote for the candidate of their choice.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Councillor Carol Runciman said despite only being in place for a short time, the York Youth Council and Members of the UK Youth Parliament had made a big impact on behalf of young people.
She said, "Joe Feeney and Deputy MYP Joe Armer have done a great job of speaking out for young people both locally and nationally. Together with the new Youth Council they have helped to ensure that local young people have a voice."
"Joe recently addressed the NEEC 2010 conference, where he talked about the work of the UK Youth Parliament and he certainly made a good impression on the delegates."
"We have been working hard here in York to ensure young people are consulted on decisions affecting them and having a representative on the UK Youth Parliament means young people will also get to have their voices heard on national issues."
"It is important that young people get involved in decision making and I hope that the hustings will encourage all young people to think about the political issues that affect their daily lives."
"I look forward to attending the hustings and meeting with all the candidates and look forward to working with whoever is successful."
