City of York Council is launching an appeal to encourage more people to become foster carers in conjunction with local authorities across Yorkshire.
As part of national Fostering Fortnight, 17-30 May, the council will be joined by North Yorkshire County Council, East Riding Council, Sheffield, Wakefield and Doncaster councils in airing an advertisement on prime time television to be broadcast across the Yorkshire region for two weeks.
Liberal Democrat Executive Member for Children and Young People's Services, Councillor Carol Runciman backed the appeal saying, "This advert is a great way of encouraging those who may be interested to become carers. The standard of foster care in York is first class but there is a need for more foster carers so those children who need care can remain in York."
"City of York Council is always looking for people who are interested in becoming foster carers. People from all walks of life and of all ages are welcomed and we are always happy to give information about the service, which is invaluable to the city and to our young people."
The campaign focuses on the qualities needed to be a successful foster carer and features images of children and young people with their carers. Anyone wanting more information about foster caring in the Yorkshire region should visit www.yorkshirefostering.com or call 0800 540540
